How do i get a SIA license in order to be able to do security work.

If you are in the UK and are unemployed go to the Job Centre and they can put you on the course for free, this is subject to local funding and availability. i've just done mine and it was only a 4 day course. when you have passed and have the card you can start looking for a job in as most employers won't interview you if you don't have one already.

some firms normally put you through it and pay them later when you have a badge thats what i did

You will have to go onto a training course first and then apply to the SIA for the licnece. The whole thing can cost over £300
