  1. You don't.  You accept what you've been given and get on with it.  You shine in the role you have and let them notice you.  Extra bits might crop up, you never know.  Then next time you might be considered for something more substantial.  But don't whinge, and don't be pushy.  You won't be cast at all next time if they think you're going to throw your weight about.  No director wants a prima donna on their hands.

I directed panto a few years back and put one girl in a fairly small part.  It was only as rehearsals went by that I noticed that she was always punctual, helpful, learnt her lines early etc and i felt terrible for not giving her a bigger part.  But I'd already cast everything else and wasn't prepared to kick other people out of their parts, when I thought they were right for what I'd given them.  But when I had one cast member drop out, this girl was my natural choice to replace them.  And then when I had to kick one girl out the cast (as she never turned up), again this girl was the obvious choice to step into her shoes.  So she started off with one small part, and ended up with 3.

So you might still get lucky.

  2. They probably won't change it (I know from experience) unless someone drops out. But if you practice and do really well, that will definetly influence your part for next year.

  3. With all due respect to your age and "I WANNA",,,so much of what you'll endure, should you pursue this craft as a career, will be,,, "NEXT TIME!"

Beyond that, given that you haven't attained "A" list status yet, acceptance, tolerance, and modest compromise, might be more of an education for you.

LIFE, in a most general sense, and as the Rolling Stones sang, is not always about getting what you want, but if you try,,,sometimes you get what you need."

Build on what you get, and seek other roles after the fact,,,BUT perform what you get as if it was the lead in the highest rated show on Broadway.

    Just my 2 "scents"

  4. If you work really hard and put on a great show with the part you have you'll do two things: impress your director for next year and make the audience love you. Plus you'll have a ton of fun.

  5. If you really love your craft then no role is too small. starting small is the way to go. Just be confident and positive and even in a small role you will stand out and then once you do get noticed then the bigger parts will come. Just give it some time. Good luck. Hope that helped.

  6. Well, the first thing you do is to work for the good of the show in every possible way. Are you on a production crew? Get on one. The second thing you can do is be a better actor, contact me and I will send you a list of professional behaviours that will make you more desireable to work with.
