  1. Delilah,

You can get a book published, but because you are a minor you can't get into a binding contract with a literary agent or publisher without consent and guidance from your parents or a guardian.

It's basically the same as a teen idol up on stage such as Miley. I'm sure she has a contract co-signed by her father Billy Ray Cyrus. It's very possible for you to get published.

Getting published and getting a literary agent is one piece of hard work though if you don't know someone who can help.

Thank you 'other folks' for stepping in and giving this person a vote of confidence. That was nice.

    I wish you the best.

  2. God People lay off her!...At least she's trying to do something with her life at such a young age!

Shop around...Trust me that's all you can do...I'm 16 and I know what it's like.Look on the internet for Publishers, write to them tell them about your age, about your book (what it's about).Tell them WHY you want to write...If you've ever read the book 'The Outsiders' it was wrote by a WOMAN, and she was young when she wrote it and published it...There's a movie out called Purgatory wrote by a 14 year old (and she's in it to)...It is possible so don't let anyone tell you 'in your dreams' or 'at 14 you don't...Because you never know.

  3. It is going to be very difficult, if not impossible, for you as a fourteen year old to sell your potential book to a publishing company.  You need to be able to write in a style which is preferred by those who publish books, and you must be able to do that grammatically, and with the proper capitalizations, punctuations, and spellings.  In addition, your story must be unique and possess the creativity to attract a readership.  What you should do at age 14 is to practice writing without the goal of publication.  Simply write the story which is incubating in your mind.  When you're finished, have it critiqued by someone qualified to do so, afterward editing and polishing your work until you and your mentor are satisfied that it is worthy of publication, after which you can explore the avenues available to you.  Invest in "Writer's Market -- 2008" for ideas as to companies which might be interested in what you've written.

  6. Come on guys, lay off the person, they are only asking, give them a go.

Try to find a few magazine stores that has writing magazines for example and send a few fiction stories to them, in time consider sending your script to a publishing house.

I'll tell you the truth, if there is 30 publishing houses nearby and a script worth 500 pages A4 size, you could easily spend 1.5 grand trying to send off scripts that may not regretted, how to avoid that obstacle is contact a few publishing house that are genred in your script, publishing houses just won't except scripts that aren't in their same genre.

Once you've narrowed it down from 30 to 15 send your scripts off like crazy.

Remember to double space, and leave a good 3 inch margin for corrections.

It'll happen if you believe and don't let anyone try to tell you elsewise :)

(I'm inspiring to the same goal as you and I'm much older than you and its good to see you wanting to go out there and give it a go) I'd like to see how many people your age would ;)

All the best and keep writing :D

  7. Go to a public library and read Writer's Market. It will tell you how to submit a book and who is interested in accepting a book from an unknown author.

Join a Writer's Workshop either online or at a Community College.

Remember Gone With the Wind was turned down 41 times before it was accepted.

Harry Potter was turned down 11 times before it was accepted.

    Good luck.

  8. In your dreams of course!

  9. First off, you do want to finish your book. Do NOT go around trying to get it published until it's done. Once you're done, make sure that it's the best that it can be. Then, give your book to a parent/teacher/adult whom you can trust to be honest. Don't give it to your friends, because, since they're most like only fourteen or so as well, they won't be able to give a very accurate opinion about that. Once they're done helping you make it the best it can be, go through and make sure the grammar/spelling is perfect. After that, do some research for agents (not publishers!!!!). Figure out what kind of people do you want reading your book, and what kind of book you have. Once you find a couple agents that fits what kind of book you have, send in a letter/part of your book according to what the agent wants. You can send it to a couple agents, but you can only accept one if several decide to pitch your book to a publisher. Remember that getting an agent doesn't mean you'll get published, just that you have a higher chance of it.

Also, there is very VERY little chance that you, at fourteen, will get published. It's pretty close to impossible. Realistically, you should wait until you are at least out of high school, but good luck if you decide not to.
