  1. as said above fruit picking jobs are difficult to get for non EU members. if all you want is a way of financing your stay in france rather than get a well-paid job, check this article, it may answer your question. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con...

if you are european, then the following site is for you. http://www.fruitpickingjobs.com/

  2. I get the impression that you are an American citizen. If that is true then understand that is illegal for you to work in France with specific permission and that will not be forthcoming.

Which is not to say that vineyards in France don't employ illegal aliens (just like farms in the USA hire illegal entrants) but its hard work and very low paid.

Of course I understand and applaud your desire to spend some time in France but this may not be the best way to do it.

Have you considered being an au pair (a mother's helper). You can do this perfectly legally and while the work is also hard its something that you should have no trouble handling.

If you're interested, the French embassy in Washington has this web page about the legal requirements for doing this: http://www.consulfrance-washington.org/s...

  3. While I've never worked in the wine industry myself, you might want to consider getting in touch with your nearest French Consulate and asking them about the formalities (work visa, etc.), as well as some good contacts. http://www.ambafrance-us.org/intheus/con...

Perhaps this site about French wine can also give you an idea as to a few of the more famous vineyards you could go about contacting, though you'd do well to contact some lesser known ones as well, IMHO: http://www.terroir-france.com/
