Start as an intern if you're still in high school or college. Even though it's unpaid, you get to make connections with the crew members. Go and write a request letter and show them your enthusiasm. It's not enough to say "it's cool to work in a magazine". If you're not in college, try looking up Journalism/Advertising courses.

Hi. I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who has a strong interest in Journalism! I highly recommend beginning with classes at your school that are offered such as, Journalism, or Creative Writing. You should stick with those throughout high school. I highly highly highly recommend applying to Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois because if you are serious about becoming a journalist and if you have descent grades they have an AMAZING journalism program!! You should also try University of Missouri, UNC Chapel Hill, or University of Florida. There, you should get a degree in Journalism and if their are other schools your interested but don't have a Journalism program try to major in English. After you graduate you should take jobs at small local papers, then try to intern in New York and get your name heard by magazines. Then try to keep good working experience and apply for a job at Cosmo Girl or Cosmopolitan.
