How do i get a new ip address?

How do i get a new ip adress with a cable modem? i was told if you turn off the modem you have to contact the cable company to get it turned back on, dont know if this is true or not, im only good with DSL modems and dial up, but i was banned from a chat site for no reason, and i was banned from my ip adress, www.blitzgamer.com. i cant hack into it, so how do i get a new ip adress so i can get back into the chat?

Do you have a router? If so then you have to do this on the router or else on the computer.

Release your DHCP IP Address.

Turn off your cable modem

Change your MAC Address for your router / PC

Turn on your cable modem

You should have a new IP Address.

This works for most ISP's.

you may get a new IP if you disconnect and re-connect, but not always. In most cases now the site blocks other details of your machine, they know this trick. Better is not to break the rules, then you don't get banned.

yes your cable modem is assigned an IP address by DCHP. DCHP assigns a lease to your ip address for a certain amount of time. If you leave your cable modem unplugged/not connected to coax and let the current lease expire. Once you plug the modem in, it will aquire a new lease, and you have the potential to get another ip address.

You could have the same, it's hard to tell what exactly your going to get without knowing the next available address (which only your cable company knows/controls).

Have you thought about using a proxy? It will obscure your current IP address.

Your account will probably be captured, and stolen using a proxy. However it will allow you to figure out what's going on with your old one.
