  1. There are a few insurers who do insure non-road registered vehicles that have been made road legal, such as those insurers that insure kit cars after they have been built, but they are few and far between.

I know that you are referring to a bike, but I presume that they fall under the same process as kit cars as you are putting something that wasn't previously road legal on to the road.

The procedure is that you would need to get a qualified motor engineer to come to your house and do a full examination of the vehicle. He will check everything on the bike and make sure that it is safe to use on the road. He will then do one of three things. He will fail it, meaning that you can't use it on the road as it is not safe, he will advise you what needs doing to make it safe, or he will pass it as safe.

Once he has passed it as safe, you need to submit the certificate he gives you to the DVLA. They will also send an inspector round and if they are satisfied, they will allocate a Q registration plate, which means it is road legal, but they do not know the origin of it. You would then need to arrange insurance, tax and an MOT on it before you can use it.

It's an expensive process as these people who inspect it are not cheap, but if you really want to put it on the road and you are prepared to pay a fortune to do so, then that is the procedure to take.

  2. It's not easy, it's not expensive, and most of all, it is not possible.

    Sorry :(

  3. you can't get a non legal vehicle on the road, because no insurance company will insure a non legal vehicle.
