How do i get a second hard drive to act as slave for desktop pc?

i am having trouble w/ one of my HD so I have plugged it into the slave port and want to access it through the master if possible and see if I need to reformat it or down load a service pack or some sort of software. Do i need to set it to something else in the BIOS or move the little plug in back of the hard disk? HELP

Next to where you plugged in the disk you should see 3 sets of pins. On the drive somewhere should be a diagram showing which pints set Master, Slave, and Auto. Set the drive to Slave with a jumper. Make sure your main drive is set to master.
