  1. File a mechanics lien on it.

You will have to send a certified letter to the last known address of the owner. When it comes back, do not open it. Take it along with the lien papers to the DMV and get title top it.

You can also use a registration service to help you.

  2. You need to file for a lean tile. Tec: you need to store the vehicle for a 120 day. It cost a couple hundren dollars to get this tile. Howevery the owner can pick up at any time during the 120 days. I don't think the other guy will say any thing. I have first hand knowledge from were I used to work some years ago. It was a monthlt thing for vehicle we towed off the road under police order. That how we got gone of them.

Each state has their own rules. So you will need to check with the your own DMV.

  3. So someone who had a car left on his property, who possibly could have entered a lien against it for storage, gave it to you, even though it wasn't his to give to anyone.  You, for whatever reason took it, brought it home and then went to the DMV where you lied to them.  Is that about it?  Of course the DMV talked about filing for lost titles, mainly because you lied to them and told them you lost it.

Yes, it really has an owner.  Someone is listed as the owner of that car.  It could be that there is a lien against it and money is owed to a bank, it could be a stolen vehicle.  Which means you may in possession of stolen property.

Step one, stop by the police station with the VIN and see if it's stolen.  If it is, they will come get it, and you will have some questions to answer.

Step two, assuming it isn't stolen, go back to the DMV and tell them the truth this time, and they might be able to help you.
