As an American citizen, you can use the site below and read the section under "Entry Requirements" .  There  is contact information  there to the Russian  consulates in 4 cities in the U.S.  Choose the one closest to you to contact to apply for a visa. The application process for a visa to go to Russia is complicated.  Both you and your son will also need passports.  See 2nd site for passport application info.

You don't say from where you are travelling. If you are in the UK, call ASLA on 01480 433783 these are the people I got my visa from when I went to Russia.Or you can call the Russian Embassy.
