  1. Well, first you need a HDTV that supports 1080p.  Next you'll need to connect something that outuputs a 1080p signal.

    Right now, the only source for true 1080p is Blu-Ray or HD-DVD.  These are recorded at native 1080p, unlike an upscaling DVD player which takes regular DVD (520p?) and "stretches" it to 1080p.

    Cable, satellite and broadcast (OTA) stations that are HD are only using 720p with only a very few using 1080i (like CBS)

    Upscaling DVD players can produce a 1080p signal with its upscaler processor, but DVDs themselves are not 1080p.

    Also, remember that all 1080p HDTVs come with an upscaler of their own, so no matter what the resolution of the input, the TV will then upscale it to 1080p.

    It will be years (decades?) before 1080p is the norm for TV.
