How do i get all the things i erased on my computer back?

I recently trashed a lot of folders and pics but after loking my compuer i noticed i trashed the wrong thing how do i get them back if i totally erased them. They are not even in the trash can any more?

System restore isn't always realible on documents more towards software. I would try recuva (http://www.recuva.com/) nice simple free tool that can recover most recently deleted documents
