  1. by practicing lots of hours... or get a friend who can do those moves really well to help you... but practice.... alot

  2. the only way you get better at anything is to practice taht is the only way to get to your max poteneial

  3. practice....it can be just by yourself, go up againest a wall and serve. to build up how hard you serve build up your muscle in your lower and upper arm.

  4. Overhand:

    1. TAKE YOUR TIME

The official rule is that you have 8 seconds to perform your serve. This is actually an eternity. Rushing your serve will only s***w up your routine, and cause you to lose serve and lose the point! So wait for the whistle!

    2. CREATE A ROUTINE

Your routine is perhaps the most important aspect of your “pre-serve”.Decide how many bounces, slaps, etc. you will do before going into the serving motions. This will give you some familiarity and make your serve consistent.

This also includes knowing how far you are from the service line (“serves go over, feet don’t!”)

    3. CHOOSE YOUR VICTIM

Picking a target on the floor will keep you from serving “out”.

Avoid good back row players, such as the libero as your victim. Find a possible hole on the floor (ex. in the middle of a cup formation)

    4. THE TOSS

This is the most important aspect of the actual serve.

Bring the ball in both hands in front of your body.

Toss with both hands and do not toss between your legs!

    5. FANCY FOOTWORK

Stand so that your feet are about shoulder width apart, with your foot the same side as your hitting arm slightly ahead of the opposite foot. Check: Are your feet/body facing your victim? Are your feet far enough from the service line?

6.THE TOSS CONTINUEDThrow the ball about 4 feet to double your height. Toss straight up- too far ahead/behind will throw off your serve.

    7. CONTACTING THE BALL

    Lead with your elbow.

Make solid contact on the top of the ball.

Don’t poke the ball-put some muscle into it!

NEVER, EVER fist the ball. Cast your palm as open as possible for the most surface area.

While contacting the ball, step with the foot opposite your hitting arm.

    8. BODY MOVEMENTS

This will give you the most balance and propel your body.

Pull your non-hitting arm down, and let your hips twist when you hit the ball.

    9. FOLLOW THROUGH

After hitting the ball, snap your wrist.

This will give you the top spin you want to make your serve difficult to receive. Drag your foot -the same side as your hitting arm-because you cannot take 2 steps.

I'd also advise starting close, in a practice settting, and working your way back behind the line, to built up arm strength.

    Underhand:

    1. Square up to where you are aiming.

    2. Don't toss the ball up, hit it out of you hand.

    3. Follow through with your body.

  5. practice every chance you can get..you will get better as you go..

  6. under hand just keep practicing different ways and walk into it over hand u have to build the muscle in ur arm and shoulders push ups pull ups help and walk into it just keep trying and u will get it took me a whole year to get it over the net

  7. overhand can't help ya cuz i suck at that one.... underhand well u probably should get more force and before u serve the ball make sure ur facing the right way so that i wont land in the bleachers or something......

  8. This will sound old but it is true. PRACTICE makes perfect! It takes time trust me I know!!

Just work on it any time you get!!

    best of luck!!!

  9. in order to serve better and easier under hand, you should practice. also, you know when you serve underhand your wrist comes in contact with the ball, instead, put your hand in a wrist and make sure the side with the thumb on top comes in contact with the ball. swing your arm back, take a step forward while bringing your arm in and hit the ball as hard as you can. for over hand, i never had a nag for that, and my coach never let me. but then, over the summer, i took a waterpolo class, and it requires you to pass a ball(heavier than a volleyball) one-handed to teammates and to score. you are in the deep end of the pool, and have to tread water with only your legs. and at the end of the session i picked up my volleyball and started throwing the ball at a wall, and i noticed that i could throw 5x better than before.  so, i figured out that having to throw a ball one handed without the use of my legs, actually helped me on land when i can use my legs, so, now i am a great overhand server and i feel great.

so, if you have access to a pool, grab a ball, go in the deep end, and start throwing the ball, either to a friend, or a nearby wall, or just throwing to the water, or if you can, take a water polo class, it will work wonders for you, hope this helps!

  10. When I started doing under hand I just held the volleyball in one hand and stated swinging the other hand back and forth almost touching the ball. Saying to myself "One, Two, Three."  I got it over 95% of the time!  Over hand just practice doing spikes....just hit it harder.

  11. I know you don't want to hear it, but the answer is: Practice.  If you can go to a gym a couple times every week, you can REALLY tell the difference.  But here are some tips, because i think this is what you want:

-When serving underhand, put your right foot forward, and take a step with your left while bringing your arm toward the ball in your hand.  Hit the ball off of your hand, DO NOT!! toss the ball and hit it.  Serve it with a fist, not an open hand.

-For an overhand, toss the ball about 3 feet from where the highest point you can reach.  Bring your serving arm back like a bow and arrow.  As the ball is then falling, shoot your arm forward and contact the ball hard with an open hand.  Flick your wrist for no floater, or pop your wrist and stop your arm swing right after you hit the ball for a floater.  Hope i helped.

Oh, and to work on overhand, just practice tossing the ball up 100 times a day, and it really helps.  Coaches love commitment to the sport :D

  12. Rather than trying to step in to the serve, plant your feet in position (left foot foward if your right handed, vise versa if left handed) and concentrate on follow thru. Follow thru is the most important, once you get that down, you can add the power you need to get it over the net by adding your step later. I was never good at over handed serves until my coach had me do this, it helped a lot. Good luck.

  13. the hand that you write with needs to be stif and throw the ball high in the air with 2 hands. then just swing as hard as you can

  14. I suck too!!! I practiced for the entire dseason and never ot it! I should read some of these answers!

  15. practice the over hand serve more. if you want to play at higher levels, like highschool or college, try to use te overhand serve more. make sure you give yourself a good toss, high enough to extend your whole arm. then, keep your eye on the ball. make sure to keep your arm strong as you swing, and follow through all the way down. to add top spin, snap your wrist after you hit the ball. hope this helps

  16. Practice everyday with a family member.A sibling or a parent.Maybe even a friend!!!!
