  1. Drive for show, putt for dough.  Practice putting 1-2 hours a day.

  2. The most critical statistics to watch (to improve in golf) are: your average no. of fairways hit; no. of greens in regulation and no. of putts. It is easier said than done. Having said, that the key to good scores is your short game ability and skills (bunker shot, pitching, and putting).

Practice makes perfect, and since you're just 12 you have ample time to persevere and improve your score.

  3. Besides practice.. I heard that a lot of your golfing ability comes from your bodies core strength. Your core strength is like your chest, abs, back (i think double check to be sure though). So you could do excercises that increase those areas strengths. Also your not really playing that badly now. Especially for someone your age. I know a lot of people that have been playing for a long time and you seem to be doing better then them. But research which muscles are responsible for your bodies core strength and then work on those and see if that helps.. And as for your slice in your swing. there are so many parts of a swing that can go wrong. If you are really having trouble have someone show you some tips, and i heard a lot of people video tape themselves at a driving range to see where they might be making mistakes.

  4. I should be asking YOU for advice on how to get better.....you'd kick my *** on the course!

That being said, I think I would agree with the folks who stress working on your short game.  Shots inside of 120 yards, pitching, chipping & putting.  I think that is a quick way to knock off a few strokes.  Wish I had the time to practice more!

I also like the idea of keeping stats during your round in order to identify areas of your game in need of improvement.  Fairways hit, greens in regulation, # of putts, hazard saves, etc...

  5. try the site below for some free lessons that may help improve your game

  6. Track the following on your scorecard for every round:

    -Fairways hit

    -Greens in regulation

    -Putts on each hole

-Shorthand if you have a "blow-up" hole (what happened, what did you do...what could you have done differently).

The scorecard, with all that data, should help you figure out where your need area is.

Keep in mind that most golfers would improve a ton just by working on their short game (50 yards and in).

  7. stick with the short game. i can hit the ball a mile yet my best score is 82. Soon you will become stronger as yo get older, and you''l be hitting it further. Just make sure to stay on top of your short game

  8. First thing, if your working out with weights make sure you are stretching before and after working out and playing golf.  To increase distance in golf you have to maintain your flexibility.  If  you don't, you will find your distance will stay status quo.  Second, based on your distance and scores, you appear to have a pretty good short game as it is.  If  your playing from the back tees, you are likely hitting a lot of long irons into greens which would go against a high percentage of GIR.

I would keep track for several months of all your golfing stats.  This will only work if your truley honest with the numbers.  If your not, you are only cheating yourself.  If your an avid golfer I would beg an plead your parents into getting you a range finder.  This way, you can gauge how far you hit each club with swings of 80%, 90% and 100% "+".  During tournaments this will help.  I would also recommend spending a lot of time on the range.  At times during the summer I would play 27-36 holes a day on weekend and also hit 150-300 balls working on my swing.

Finally, try to get yourself in pressure situations.  Given your age, you might find a couple of people you can play in tournaments with in your age group.  What you do playing with your buddies and then in a tournament can and will be two different things.  You must "LEARN" how to score.  Everyone can score when they hit the ball good.....you must learn how score when you don't have your best swing and you have something on the line (tournament) and making a 5 or 6 really hurts.

  9. sounds like you have a much better game than the average player...how to improve..well as the saying goes drive for show putt for dough, concentrate on your chort game and putting..that is what really seperates the pros from the joes the ability to recover from bad shots.
