How do i get burnt plastic off oven grills?

my 2 year old put a big plastic bowl in my oven i didn't realize it until i put something in the oven too cook but it was too late.. the bowl melted all down the grills and on the bottom. I let it cool down and got the bottom off the plastic on the grills is still there it's hard and kinda stringy. what is the best way to get this plastic off . any ideas.. thanks

  1. put a layer of aluminum foil in the bttom of the oven, put the racks in, heat the oven and after the racks are heated wear oven mitts and use a cheap throw away spatula from the dollar store to scrape the racks clean while they are in the oven. then take the foil out and throw it away.

  3. Ohhhh, darn!

    Wow, that is a tough one.

    The only thing I can think of to do is to remove all your racks, and take them outside and scrub them with a wire brush until it is off.

    Reheated it will just make them stringy and if you should get it on your fingers, it will be extremely hot causing burns.

    Worst case, you might have to buy new racks.

    Did it hit the burner?
