You want to get onto your high school team and try to post some good results. Most recruiters look at AJGA tournament results. Depending upon your level try to play in tournaments where you can be competitive . Hopefully you have a PGA pro helping you ,as they can also set some good realistic goals for you. Remember no matter how good you get to keep having fun with the game.

Here's some advice from a high school golf coach:

Play in city, county and state championships, especially those sponsored by the USGA and your state golf associations.

Send clips to the coaches of colleges you want to play for.

See if the coaches of any of the colleges that you want to play for run summer camps. Attend one of those.

Speak to your coach and athletic director. If you're good, they should be on the phone for you.

From personal experience, I would tell you not to sit back and wait for them to call you. You have to realize how many junior golfers there are out there, and coaches only have limited resources/time. Make a few phone calls to coaches because you have nothing to lose by doing so. Coaches like prospects to show initiative b/c this could also be a good relflection of your determination and work ethic. These traits go a long way once you get into college golf. You are much more likely to get recognized by your local schools so i would start there. I would also suggest playing in as many AJGA events or any tourney that is hosted by the PGA of America. Play in your state open (ie Kentucky Open), as well as try the U.S. Open qualifiers. Other than that i would say keep your grades up and play as much as possible.

Make sure you get all your scores in the paper. You also need to play as many outside (not school) tourneys as possible. From paper clippings and tourney results you need to make a golfing portfolio and send it to various colleges you are interested in. Your coach should also be on the phone contacting colleges for you.
