then hop the trolley to San Ysidro and then walk across the border to Mexico

thats the way many travelers do this (avoid Greyhound like

like the pits)

its a fun way to travel (well expect for the line to return to the US clearing US customs that is)

This is a very easy answer & I drove this route many times when I use to live in San Diego & visited my sister in the L.A. area.

The only thing you have to do is find interstate 5 from where you're at & take it south to the San Diego area. Stay on interstate 5 through San Diego & it will take you right the Mexican border right at the city of Tijuana. You can drive into Tijuana with your vehicle or you can park & walk over. Tijuana is right on the border.

I don't know exactly where you live in L.A. but I do know there's a few interstates there & they will all connect to interstate 5 somewhere in your area. Interstate 5 south out of L.A. is the only way to get to Tijuana from where you live.

It depends where you start in L.A. I recommend the 5 or the 405 to the 5, which ever is closest to you. The 5 leads straight into Tijuana.
