Take the LIRR to Freeport, take the N88 bus from there (Saturdays and Sundays only, every half hour)

My friend, take the LIRR's Babylon Branch from Penn Station to Wantagh. Once there, transfer to the N87 bus southbound to Jones Beach. The bus will leave you closer to the amphitheater.
