do you need to go on a tour to get from one to the other or can you simply fly by yourself? are their any trains or buses that do the trip?

thanks!

  1. It is best to do it with a tour........

www.guidenepal.com   looks like a great site

  2. you have to chose Sino-Nepal Friendship Highway (Lhasa--Zhangmu Friendship Bridge-Kathmandu)

The Friendship Highway starts from the capital of Nepal-Kathmandu, traverses Hangmu Friendship Bridge( SinoNepal Friendship Bridge) at Kodari to Neyalamu County in Tibet and crosses Shigatse-- the second largest city of Tibet to the capital of Tibet-Lhasa. It covers a distance of more than 900 km.

Route: Kathmandu >Tibet Border at kodari>Zhangmu>Nyalam>Xegar (crossing NYALAMU PASS 3800m. & LALUNG LA PASS 5050m.)> Tingri>Xigatse or Shigatse (Shigatse has the famous Tashilunpo Monastery and the seat of Panchen Lama)>Gyantse>crossing two passes - THE KAROLA 5010M. and KAMBA LA 4794M>Yamdrok Tso lake> Lhasa

You may find regular trip organized by local operators (mostly starts on saturday)

    happy travelling
