How do i get hold of my Social services records/file relating to my adoption?

I am 22 and was adopted as a baby . I have been in occational contact with my birth mother since i was 18. I know her name, where i was born and all basic information but i would like to get hold of my case file from social services. How do i go about doing it? I've searched the internet but can't seem to find anything helpful!

  1. If you are in the UK, your social services records/file relating to your adoption is yours and all you have to do is apply here:

    If you were born in the USA, unfortunately they are way behind with restoring Adult Adoptees' civil rights to their own records and the majority of States remain sealed under ancient laws and, unfortunately, efforts to open them are met with opposition from people who support such discrimination.
