  1. When I was in high school I wanted to be a funeral director.  My guidance counselor enter me in a school~to~career program.  I was excited, the funeral director she set me up with was less that enthusiastic about me being a girl.  His exact words to me where "You'll never get a job in this town."  I live in Indiana (the bible belt) and most of the funeral homes are family owned and family ran.  Which could be why they don't really advertise for help.  I did go to college and there were a few women in my class but in the end he was sorta right, each of the women were connected in some way to the family business, daughters, wives, aunts, cousins.  Not one woman (except me) came to school unaffiliated with a home already.  I used the schooling to get into social work.  I never worked a day in my life as a funeral director...but it was great training.

I hope where you live this isn't the case.  Good Luck!!!

  2. If you go to church, you might ask your pastor if they know a funeral director who might be willing to hire you or answer some questions you have about the business and get your foot in the door that way.

Some funeral homes have websites and e-mail addresses.  You could go on the web and maybe find out names and contact info that way You could send an e-mail that says roughly the same thing as the first sentence of your question: you're interested in the business, realize its not for everyone, would like to try working in a funeral home doing whatever needs doing, and if they have any positions open, perhaps they might consider you.

Include your resume with the e-mail.  At the end, you might add that if they are not hiring at this time, perhaps you could come by and speak with someone and ask questions about the industry.

Of course, if you do go to "just ask questions", you are trying to make a good impression so that if something does open up, you will be remembered as a potential candidate.  Might take a hardcopy of resume that they can keep on file.

Oo! I just found this site: http://www.funeralnet.com/

It has a search option to look for jobs and internships in funeral homes.

    Good luck!

PS: I took a tour of a funeral home for a class once.  They look for people who are conscientious and professional.  It wouldn't hurt to show you have a sense of humor as well  (People who work in the death industry have to be able to "let off steam" or they will burn out).

  3. why don't you visit some of them and see if they can provide

some kind of partial job,i think is one of the best approach

you can make, plus there is nothing to loose trying.
