okay so i hate my highschool, my teachers seem to forget theres 5 other classes to take care of. only one of my teachers seems to care about her students the rest seem to hate us. theres soo much drama and i cant stand it...i want to do independent studies, but my vice principal wont let me in it. he said my GPA is to high and he simply wont sign it. even my mom wants me in it cause im stressing so much and its making me depressed, he says independent studies is for people who dont try and need an easy way out. and since i have a 2.68 he says that i can do better in normal school. even a drs note from my shrink wont sway him. how do i get him to let me in it? i REALLY need too or i think i'll go insane.

  1. I would talk to the principal and see what s/he has to say. If s/he agrees with the vice principal, then you have some other options.

    1) Regular homeschooling under your state's homeschooling laws. Just do a search for your state's name and _homeschool laws_ to find out more. If you go this route, you (your parents) will have to figure out resources, purchase them, possibly meet some legal things, your parents will probably have to create your diploma and transcript for you. Some popular products that are well laid out for high school are Sonlight http://www.sonlight.com, A Beka http://www.abeka.com, Alpha Omega (can't remember the website) and there are others. If you go this route, you'll be able to ask specific questions and get more resource possibilities. Of course, you don't need something all laid out to homeschool--you can just work with your parents in determining what you need to learn and can purchase very little, making regular use of the library.

    2) Check into free online schools: http://www.k12.com, http://www.connectionsacademy.com, or try a search for your state's name or county name and virtual school or virtual academy.

    3) If the above 2 options won't work, then you'll need to look at something you pay for. There are many companies out there: Keystone, American School of Correspondence, Penn Foster and many more.

    Good luck!

  3. You sound like me when I was your age. I was so stressed out. My parents didn't even try to fight for me like your mom is.

Let your mom go to your vice principal and tell him to get you into the program NOW! She can email me for a little advice on how to get her point across in the kind of language he'll understand.

All three of my daughters were in independent studies and they are high achievers. They didn't like the drama of high school, the sitting around twiddling their thumbs, playing the games.

One of my daughters went on to become one of the top enlisted people in Air Force intelligence. She got personal recognition by the Assistant Secretary of Defense.

Another daughter has been mostly A+ all through college and university. Both of them graduated a year early from high school through their independent study program and were in college at 16 (top of their college classes).

High achievers CAN and DO make independent study their way of graduating from high school.

Again, have Mom email me if she needs help in wording her letter to the vice principal.

  4. If you and your mom agree go ahead and research independent studies. There are many options. Do you like learning online? Good luck
