How do i get long exposure?

I have a canon rebel xt 40d and am reading abut ppl using long exposure techniques of up to many hrs. How do I accomplish this?

Either you have a Rebel 400D or you have a canon 40D and they are different model.

In either case, look on the manual how to shoot in Bulb mode.

To do this you might have to set the camera in manual mode and as you set the shutter speed the next setting after the 30 seconds mark is BULB.  The sent the Aperture, depress the button and the shutter will be open until you depress it again

your stupid use the manual mode on the camera. thats the m sign on the camera. you do know what a m looks like dont you. like this M.
