  1. The birth cert should come sooner. Maybe you should check with your local vital records office. They can print one up for you when you go. I went because I never got my babies original because I moved after she was born, so I went to the office and I paid $10 for hers. And thats not true that you need the father to be present for it.. You just need to go with your ID.

  2. the birth certificate should be ready by now. my baby is now 10 weeks old and we received her passport this week. it only took one and a half weeks for us to receive her passport.

once you have his birth certificate (original), you take that as well as the passport application form, 2 passport pics, identification for mother and father. you and the baby's father need to be there together when you apply for the passport. that's all there is to it. it's super fast and hassle-free.

  3. Call the vital statistic office in your area..

  4. Go to the central postmaster's office for the county you live in.  There you should be able to find an office that specializes in passport verification.  They should be able to verifuy your son with only the temporary birth certificate and a call to the hospital's records department.  This is not even more expensive, it costs the same as any other passport but standard over-the-counter post offices do not have the ability to work with you like your county post master.

Yak Rider is correct about the father needing to be there.

  5. You will need the original most likely - however, if you dont have it - the website i linked below gives you some other options for validating your babys identity as being a US Citizen - The good news is - processing passports for minors is really fast these days - my friend - who is on her way to Mexico as I type this - requested her son and niece's passports in May and they were processed within a weeks time!! Good luck with everything and this link should have all the info you need:

  6. You need the original document.  It should be available long before 8 months.  You didn't mention the father, but you'll need him to be there with you when you apply unless he's listed as "unknown" on the birth certificate.
