they have online courses and a list of states that accept them. If your state accepts it then you do not need to go anyplace else. Just carry the certificate with you incase you are stopped. You would normally get the certificate from your home state, and it would be honored in any state you are visiting.

You have to take the online course and then after completing that, you take the certificate to the DNR for the official test.  You would be better off going to your state's DNR website, look under courses and they will have a schedule of all the courses available to you in and around your area.  There are several week courses as well as 1 day courses.  My daughter and I took a 1 day (6 hour course), took the test at the end of the course and had our permits.  The course was free, so I took it with my daughter for the education.  Our website was www.stateofmi.gov/dnr.  Try putting your state in where the mi is and see if yours comes up.  Good luck to you!
