I have a big swimming invitational coming up next weekend and i really want to swim distance. My swim coach for my school both years always put me in distance events and i realized that i like it a lot more than sprinting. however, my YMCA coaches, haven't realized that i like it or that i'm good at it, yet. i want to be able to tell them that i want to swim distance, but they're a little intimidating and i'm afraid they'll say something about it or they just won't put me in. do you have any ideas on how i can get it into their heads that i hate sprinting and i wanna do distance?

  1. As much as I hate to tell you................KISS UP TO THE COACH

  2. you have to just tell them

  3. I would first build up the courage to go talk to your coaches and tell them that you enjoy distance swimming more that sprints and ask if they would consider putting you in the distance events. You should ask as soon as possible so they can watch you in the rest of the practices before the meet so you can show them that you are dedicated and are being serious about your request. You can also have your school coach talk/send a letter to your YMCA coaches telling them that you are a dedicated distance swimmer that enjoys the distance events and that you have done well. But that might be to late for this meet but it could work for the next meet. Good luck!

  4. Say you want to try distance. Just ask them. Usually distance events are on a Friday night, so it's not like they'll take the place of sprint events. Or if they're not, just ask to try one as well as sprint events. Tell the coach what sprint event you want to replace for a distance event, tell the coach what the distance event is, why you don't want to do the sprint event "Oh, I've done it every meet, I want to try something new"  " I don't really like it too much, I want to try this one" " I'm good at it, I'll have plenty of other chances" " I'm bad at it, I think I'm better at this distance event." Tell the coach you think you're better at distance and give examples of your times. Tell the coach you just enjoy doing distance more!!! Work hard in practice and prove up your point. Good luck!

  5. Just ask! If they say something bad about it, it does not matter. Then you can just prove them wrong later. ;)

And if they do put you in, then it will be completely worth it since you get out of sprinting.

  6. 1) have your school coach write them a recommendation for a distance event

    2)just tell them

    3) be a baby that can never say waht you want to say (not reccomended)

  7. say to ur coach that i feel that u r a stronger distance swimmer then sprinter.  an also if he ask u times of sprints either tell him a slow time or tell him u have never swam that event.
