How do i get my cousin not to be afraid of airplanes?

im going to a boarding school in spain for a year. None of my family lives there so was trying to get my cousin to come visit me sometime but she wont.

she is REALLY afraid of planes because when she was in kindergarten, her teacher went on a plane and something happened, so she died and so did some of her family. So now my cousin wont get on a plane to visit me.

It is a shame that your cousin will not get on a plane. However, times have changed since the incident, and technology has improved a lot. You know it is actually more dangerous driving to the airport than actually being on board a plane these days?

Millions of people use airplanes everyday, and it is a very rare occurance when something happens. That is why when they do, they are given so much media coverage, because they are Rare events. What are the chances it is going to happen to your cousin. Very low.

Security has also improved a lot since 9/11. New technology means it is very difficult to smuggle illegal devices on board a plane. Cockpit doors have now been made stronger, to prevent hijackings, and on some airlines there are people called air marshals on board, undercover people who work for the airline who are armed and will deal with any hijacking attempt. These marshals will look like normal passengers but will be armed.

Did her teacher die on a small plane?   Small planes are much more dangerous than large, commercial planes.   If she did die in a small plane, then you can point that out to her.
