He should weigh around 100. But he weighs 110 last I checked. He could weigh more but he could weigh less. I need to take him i to see how much he weighs.

I could do that today but they open at 1pm.

What should I cut out? I give him 3 cups a day. a few treats*but I'm out now) I think I'll stay out until I get him down some. and he gets a walk a day(school starts again Monday). maybe I can give him one before school and after school.

Do green beans help?

If this doesn't work I am going to have his thyroid checked. He some of the symptoms but not all.

  1. There are many weight management dog food out in the stores.  Maybe looking into one of these could help your dog.  There are also low fat dog treats too.  You just need to find them.

Also baby carrots, celery with the strings taken out and other veggies that can be substituted for treats too.

Green beans are a great filler too.  Just look for the ones with no salt added to them.  If buying fresh then you need to cook them even for just a few minutes and chop them up!

    Hope this helped.

ADD:  A complete Thyroid panel done at 5 years old isn't a bad idea at all.  If your dog is under that age usually the thyroid isn't suspected.  But you can ask your vet!

  2. Exercise , exercise and more exercise....Cut back on the food a little-I tried the green bean thing- no go.  I did have my dog's thyroid checked after gaining 30 lbs. Yes, 30 lbs. She was hit by a car and had several fractures and it was a bad winter and spring.  I could understand some weight gain-but that was nuts.  Long story-after almost starving the poor thing, I had her thyroid checked-  Tyroid had completely and totally stopped working.  Boom...stop.Vet said that possibly when she was hit-her thyroid naturally slowed due to her inability move except to go outside to do her business.  Appetite was poor, for her.  She is a rescued weim-and you know what they are supposed to look like. She looked like a bubble-and the added weight made her fractured leg even more painful.  Although she will be on the medicine for the rest of her life-  I am happy to report that it will be one month tomarrow (Monday) and she has lost 21 lbs.  Looks wonderful and is walking great.  She had NO other symptoms either.  It's a simple blood test- I wish I had done it sooner.  Get it done!  Good Luck
