  1. I only had 2 with my first.  He was fine.  If all of the tests they've run, blood tests, etc. are fine than there's no reason to worry.  I assume they measure you at every check-up.  That's also an indicator of how she's growing.  If there was a problem then they'd do another one, otherwise I'm sure you're fine.  The problem is not getting the doctor to do it, but to get insurance to cover one your doctor doesn't think is necessary.

  2. Ya just mug up!

  3. Actually having one at seven weeks isn't even considered standard... you got lucky there.  Chill out a bit.  I know it's fun to look at them but they also have radiation.

  4. Actually, getting more ultrasounds than necessary puts the baby at risk. It is wise to get as few as possible. Relax, mom.

Edit: They are bad for the baby - as are x-rays, the do NOT give x-rays to pregnant ladies unless it is absolutely necessary. Have you never had an x-ray? Do you remember the lead smock you put on? Yeah, they give you that to protect your uterus (pregnant or not).

  5. My brother and his wife paid for a 3rd ultrasound and they went for a 3D one. Very cool. I actually saw my nieces features and we all knew she looked just like her daddy before she came out.  I think that my sister in law found the place by looking on the internet.

  6. they will give you one at 37 weeks, usually to guesstimate the baby's weight before you are due and the baby is full term. you gotta relax! they are going to do everything they can to make sure the baby is healthy and groovin in the womb.

  7. I agree with the answer above me. Actually i just read about this. There is no real evidence of ultrasounds harming the baby and she is correct it does work off sound waves. However, if you really feel as though there is a reason you need to have another one done then there are places that offer the service of ultrasound and they can even offer 3d visuals if you are indeed that concerned but insurance will not cover this service and it is very costly but if money is no object to you then i would get it done. I feel as though you wouldnt be asking this if you werent worried out of your mind but take ease that the Dr's do not usually offer another one because at 20 weeks heaven forbid something went wrong and they had to birth the baby based on the ultrasound the baby has developed the vital organs to help keep it alive outside the womb. Be thankful they didnt find anything and just relax im sure everything is fine.

When i said the answer above me i meant "baby girl on the way" as for the one at the top freaking out about x-rays, where do you get your resources from. If ultrasounds were as harmful as an x-ray they wouldnt offer them to begin with. I use to give ultrasounds and i have read and heard from Dr's that there has been no significant evidence that ultrasounds are damaging to the baby but like with everything you may proceed with caution by not having one done everyday. Quit scaring the c**p out of people and calm down. They have been giving these things for years and there are busineeses that operate only for this sole purpose. If it killed babies they wouldnt do it. God forbid she fell down stairs they would do it again without batting an eye because it is a neccesary instrument.

  8. When they do the ultrasound at 20 weeks all of the vital organs are formed, so they can see that everything is forming properly.  It is very costly, and it is an ex-ray...that you are giving to your baby!  Its not all that healthy.  The anxiety that you are feeling is pretty normal, we all go through it, you just have to wait it out.

  9. say u fell or have some type of bleeding i guess?? Thats the only thing I can think of

  10. LOL WOW, to all those who said its unhealthy for your baby to get an ultrasound!! Its in no way shape or form bad for you, nor is it the same thing as an X-Ray. An ultrasound actually works off of sound waves believe it or not. However, they are costly, so unless you started to measure small, and no prior complications from other ultrasounds or anything, chances are small that they'll give you another one. Only because insurance doesnt want to cover them if its not for any serious medical reason after your 20 week appt. Why dont you pay a little more, and find a 4D ultrasound place in your town and have one of those done!!! they are amazing!! Yes, you'll have to pay, but its way more than you'd get from a regular ultrasound. But if your baby is measuring right, and you feel fetal movements regularly, relax, everything should be just fine.

  11. I know its great and gives you peace of mind to see your baby on the screen, but in all honesty you really don;t need one if you are not bleeding or have had no pre existing problems.

By 32 weeks your OB can accurately measure your baby's size just by simply measuring your uterus.  If your baby was too small or too big, your uterus would also be the wrong size.

As long as she is kicking ya good and you are growing on target, everything should be just fine!
