How do i get my drum machine to start with the click

If you are trying to play along with a drum machine, ignore Jaime's answer.

Use what is called a click track. It gives you a steady beat to play your music.

I had a recording studio years ago and my friend and I could play everything except drums.

I'm guessing you need a tempo to start your song. If it does not have a click track use a quiet snare  or high hat beat. This means your first measure does not count and most live bands rely on the drummer to count off the tempo.

If you have a more high dollar drum machine you can erase the first measure (click track) if you want to.

My friend usually wrote the guitar and melody and then had me write the Bass line which the drum line  would follow. It made for some pretty cool music.
