  1. If you modem is a modem/router and DHCP is enabled on it, you should be able to set up your ethernet to get everything automatically.  But if your modem is a bridge modem, or in bridge mode, you may need to run PPPoE on your computer (if you do not have a router to do that).

If your modem is doing PPPoE and you want to find out your public IP, do Start, Accessories, Command Prompt, and then type: ipconfig /all.  Look for default gateway and enter that as a URL in your browser to log into the modem.

It would help if you said what make/model DSL modem or whether you have a separate router.

  2. If u ar lookign to connect to your modem and view / edit ites config , some of the answers are correct . Avoid disclonig the make of the modem on the public forums for your PC / home network security from internet net vulneability

  3. got to your internet explorer

type : the IP Addresses and check in the following order

    http://192.168.1.1

    http://192.168.1.2

    http://192.168.1.0

One of them will point to your modem, ideally the default user name and password that will be prompted for will be

    user name : admin

    password : password  or admin

    enjoy
