  1. My parents have two cockatiels. The male talks and they have the birds watch jungle birds on tv. The male will talk to the tv and does and repeats what the other birds are saying. His name is georgy. And he will say his name and etc... So it's not all true that just the females will talk. It also depends on how much your willing to spend with the bird and how old it was when you got it. Quality time is the way to make any type of talking bird want to talk. They have the choice if they want to talk just the same as any other animal on the planet.

  2. Yes, Cockatiels can talk. But only the females.

    Males tend to just whistle.

Mine says Pretty boy(even though shes a girl) haha

anyways you just have to work with them. say the phrases over and over again to them!

    eventually they will catch on.

  3. Actually the females usually just whistle a bit, some can pick up a few words, but it's rare for a female to talk.  Think to birds in the wild, it's the males who are vocal, they need to woo the female.

Males can be very good talkers if worked with a lot.  You just repeat, repeat repeat and eventually they'll pick it up.  It's best to work with them when they're alert but in a cuddly mood.  They'll be very attentive to what you're saying.

My male cockatiel has 15 phrases he can say and does on a regular basis (the longest phrase has 6 words in it).  He also wolf whistles, rings like the telephone, does a baby bird impression, imitates my laugh, sings Andy Griffith, Happy Birthday and a few tunes he made up himself.

  4. yes they can talk , but dont push them . They learn from repetition. i have two and they both can meow and "vrrooom vroom" from hearing the vacum cleaner and one can even repeat songs if you wistle them to him. but basically it will learn over time , theyre  not like parrots.

ps. most cheap birds dont "talk" like humans..

thats prob. why theyre cheap lol

  5. cockatiels can't talk, but they can sing.

To try to get her to sing, bring her into a room with no destractions, look her in the eye and just repeat the same whistle the same thing over again until she starts repeating.

The key thing is her attention though, you must have her focus on you and have patience.
