  1. if you whant to play with him when he's sleeping let him smell you first and give him some treats that way he will know who you are

  2. I recently got a hamster also. Don't worry if he hides from you in cage at first, it's probably because he's just getting used to his new surroundings. Also, if you have a dwarf hamster, they tend to jumpy and hyper as part of their nature. Syrian hamsters are a bit calmer, but they are for more advanced owners. I happen to have a Short Haired Golden Hamster. Here's a tip: sit in your bathtub and let your hamster crawl around you. This should get him a little more used to you. Hope this helped! :)

  3. just keep handling him more and more create a bond,

  4. give him treats everytime he willingly comes to you, this way he associates you with good things.  Be patient, it just takes a little time

  5. It takes a long while (couple of weeks really) and a lot of patience, but it is worth it.

1). Leave you're hand somewhere in his cage and let him approach you a couple of times. He may run away again, but he's getting used to you.

2). Then start introducing treats such as peices of carrots or choco drops specially for hamsters on you're palm or hold with your fingers; and wait for him to approach before taking.

He may still be scared so don't make any sudden movements at all.

3). Then everynow and again pick him up ; let him know you're they're by doing step 1 FIRST. You don't want to scare him. Hold him against you're chest but not too high off a surface so if he does panic and run/jump he doesnt have far to fall.

4). Then start letting him run from one hand to the other. Block him with the next hand when you want him to start.

5). You can then let him roam around your bed - keeping a very watchful eye on him incase he's too close the edge ; and he should approach you.

But NEVER do too much in one go... Do each step for about 15 mins at a time. Never wake him up to do a step - he'll be grouchy and bite.   and give him breaks of atleast an hour.

  6. Handle him more often.  If you're afraid of it biting wear gloves.  Once he is use to you, you can handle him without the gloves.  When you take him out, make sure he can't escape by setting up good barriers (if he's a hyper one).

  7. Why do people treat hansters as dogs?? they're mainly noctural animals that like to live alone and be alone they do not welcome human interference and many to not like to be handled (even if they put up with it) you cn get him used to you by spending time with him but that wont make him want to sit with you for christs sake

  8. get your hamster one of those running balls and put him in it and stroke him in there so he wont get out

but when he starts to get use to you then give it another go at holding him.

    hope i helped

  9. Rodents are timid by nature and it's really difficult to snap them out of that instinctual urge to flee unless you've hand raised them, and even then you shouldn't be expecting something akin to a lapdog. "Playing" might be out of the question, as well. He's a hamster. His mind is wired to eat, nest, sleep, and gather. Learn to interact with him in ways he enjoys. Put a pile of food on the table for him to gather. Give him nesting materials and watch him build a home. Etc.

  10. I HAVE HAD MANY HAMSTERS! i always have that problem. every day a few times a day, stick your hand in the cage and pet it, that way, he gets used to you and in a few days/weeks you will prolly be able to pick him up. trust , it works a lot faster than just trying to pick it up.         hope this helps!
