He had a female partner with him in his cage, and all they ever did was fight an peck at each other. we kept them together for a good 8 or 9 months, but the fighting was so bad we were afraid for Their health, So we sold the female. (we had the male originally.) I was wondering, why wouldn't they show even the slightest hint of interest in each other?

  1. First off, Ringnecks are VERY aggressive birds. They normally only show signs of affection during mating season. Which is one reason many fanciers enjoy breeding these types of birds. They can repair them each year with different mates. Some tend to be selective to color(greens kept only with green colored birds tend not to like solid yellow or white mates) but not normally bird to bird. They have to be introduced in neutral territory at the right time and its best if the birds are used to seeing each other in separate cages. And it is best to give them a large breeder flight cage in case the female gets overly territorial. All the breeders who did well with Ringnecks had them in very large(at least 4 foot per pair) flights.

I have 7 right now but none of breeding age. I am using home made flight cages that are 6 foot long x 5 foot tall x 4 foot wide. You have to be careful of using would though as they are chewers.
