How do i get my invention pattented???

i have a great invention i need to get off the ground the problem is i dont know where to begin to get it out of my head and into the stores. any solutions?

You need to consult a patent attorney. Be prepared to shell out some big money though. I know someone who is going through the process of filing a patent and they have spent over $10,000 just on the preliminary work - they haven't even filed yet. They're probably looking at $30,000 in legal and filing fees. And that doesn't include any costs associated with prototyping the invention.

Be very wary of places promising cheap or do-it-yourself patents, because that is setting yourself up for your invention to be stolen. I have heard of people getting their patent recorded this way, only to have it invalidated later on.
