How do i get my microphone to work on my computer?

when i go to control panel and then go to sound and go to recording there is no microphone icon listed on the line-in icon..how do i get the microphone icon back on that screen? it was there but i disabled it and it took the icon off. but when i tried to do the speech regon. test it said no sound was recorded what can i do.. Need Help

Check your microphone connection.

Go to Advanced Controls under Options.

Did you check wether your sound drivers are installed or not ..............
