ok my mom has been on some kind of medication for like the past 10 years.. She was on Oxsy Cottions like 80ml ?). Then the doctor took her off of them to be put on to the morphine patches, and some kind of morphine suckers or somthing like that (whitch is more dangerus? oxys or morphine?) I had a really long conversation with my mom tonight about how its messing up our family. Its messing up our family because somtime she doesnt know what shes saying, shes unorgonized, doesnt remember were she put things, and us kids just cant have a nice conversation with her because there is no point because she is so messed up on them d**n patches she cant remember. Now should i go to the doctor and tell him that its messing up our family? is there another soution she can take for her pain? (neck and back pain) I REALLY NEED SOME INPUT... Thank you so much.

  1. you mean oxycontin.... Morphine is allopathic medicines "last ditch" effort for pain.  This probably means she has severe pain.  There are homoeopathic medicines that would be of benefit for her so get her to see an experienced classsical homoeopath. Check with the doctor to see what else she can do about the medicines because once the pain gets too bad for the morphine, they cant do anything for her.  If the pain is arthritic maybe massage and acupuncture would help, but if the pain is from cancer, then it would be different.  Whatever the case, a good homoepath would be of benefit.  Also it sounds like she may be having a drug reaction, so report it to the doctor and if it is make sure it is reported because doctors brush off drug reactions when they should be REPORTED.  Good luck

  2. as an addict i can tell you , she probably needs to get into some kind of structured rehab ,  It is just like any other chemical dependency , the problem  is i she doesn't think she has a problem , this may be hard , ask i you can go to the doctor with her and talk to her doctor about her dependency on the patches , there are places that deal with pain management , they recognize there needs to be some medication for pain but teach how to manage it and correctly medicate it.

  3. There are a lot of new pain management options out there, they don't all work for everyone she may have to try multiple treatments. If you live in a metro area there are probably several pain clinics in the area. Part of the problem might be getting her to go to one. You can call her doctor and explain that you're worried about the effects that the morphine and other narcotics are having on her ability to function and that you'd really like them to discuss other options with her. Or you can call around and find the best pain clinic in the area and ask her to give it a try. You can also set up a sort of intervention- organize it with your family and very close family friends who see the damage her narcotic use is doing to the family. It may be difficult for her to see it as a problem because the doctors prescribe it, but you can easily get addicted to narcotics even when the doctor is handing them to you. There is no reason why you can't ask the doctor to stop prescribing them to her. That doesn't mean they will, you need to be prepared for that also. It might help if you tell them you think she is addicted. It took a lot of fights with my grandmothers doctor before they finally took her off narcotics.

  4. My heart reaches out to you. As a recovering oxy contin addict myself, I do understand how addictive and how disruptive this drug is. My 1st question to you is, why is she on them? There are so many other medications out there besides narcotics which are highly addictive to treat pain. You mentioned that she was on 80 mg, are you postive? The oxycontin 80s are usually round and green w/ a 80 on one side and the letters OC on the other. On the other hand, the pill could be football shaped. If she was snorting them BE VERY VERY concerned. Usually how oxycontin addiction starts is the user will either bit the pill, then begin to crush the pill up into a powder form then snort it, or they may even begin to desolve the pill in water, and shoot the pill up in a needle. Once you get to that point theres usually no turning back. As a 16 year old, I was taking 2 OC 80 mgs a day just to fuction, I wasn't sick nor did I hurt, but I only took it for 3 days in a row, and BOOM the 4th day I was hurting so bad I couldn't get out of the bed, needless to say THEY ARE HIGHLY ADDICTIVE! My boyfriend of 5 and 1/2 years was also addictied to the drug at the same time I was, his father is a recovering oxydrug addict as well...His father beat him and his mother while he was on this drug, and it turned him into a whole different person. You asked a very good ? which is worse oxycontin or morphine they are both TERRIBLE drugs. Your mother should consult here DR if she needs pain medication to something that isn't a narcotic. I know how hard it can be on your family, and I'm so sorry that your having to go thru this. But it's an addiction, and she doesn't realize what it's doing to you or your family, and she won't be able to truly realize it even if you tell her. When she gets off the medicine is when she'll realize it.

Good Luck & God bless you...

    Stay strong..
