See I had mono about 7 times in the past 3 years, since 4th grade. And I had ecoli (sp?) at 14 DAYS old. My immune system is h**l, and I'm soo sick of getting sick all the time!I'm in 8th and graduating this year. I just want to get homeschooled for the remainder of the year, and start high school fresh. I miss a whole lot of school, and its not even like i stay home, I GET SENT HOME! And then my teachers say "well you should come to school when your sick, or you should be in school." When they send me there! I dont ask to go to the Nurse! It sucks! How can i convince her, she said, she isnt smart enough, and its too much money. Is it?

  1. Search the Internet for information regarding homeschooling, on-line schooling and/or correspondence schools.  After you educate yourself as to which is the best fit for your situation, present the information to your mom.  Homeschooling can sound like a huge task for a mom to handle, so you might be better off with an existing program (where someone else makes up your curriculum and which books you'll use) or go to your school counselor and ask about home study and other options within your own district.

  2. I'm 13 years old, I go to an alternative school but I learn most of my stuff at home. I was learning math there, but I already learned algebra with my dad and my teacher had already taught me everything I needed to know in junior high, so I focus on my Japanese now (I'm in Japan).

Really, self teaching is the thing you should do. You are old enough to take the responsibility, and you said you were a straight A student, so learning the things in your textbooks should be no problem. Guttation is caused by root pressure? these are the kind of things you learn when you have a lot of time on your hands and have an AP bio book at your side.

In fact I play a lot of video games and such, enjoy the large amount of free time I have on my hands, but I maintain a high intellect, and you can too. Watch documentaries, read novels, even answering questions here all increases your knowledge.

Some useful tools for self-teaching yourself:

Textbooks (Ask your mom for them, I'm sure she wont refuse)

Internet access (A good replacement for the sometimes trivial information a teacher may posses is a good reference website, Wikipedia works fantastically)

Determination (Never give up and if you think you don't know something you know you can, learn it)

I wish for never-ending success in your future endeavors!

  3. Ask her to get you DVD program which is actually virtual classroom.. and you can do it yourself! If you're old enough, you don't even have to have her home all day!!! There's lots of programs that offer DVD - video classes!

  4. I have added the link to the home school high school i graduated with you get a regular high school diploma since they are a real school as well I did 3 years in two but you might want to make up for lost time being sick, this is a great program that got my mother to finally take a second look at home schooling me as well, I also had to force their hand and pretty much took myself out of school. Its not to much money and you will have an awesome support staff.

Hope it all works out for you.

  5. you're old enough to teach yourself. if your self motivated enough there shouldn't be a problem. if you really want to learn then just do it yourself. all your mom has to do i make sure you do the work.

why can't you just do home study?

  6. does your mother work? then it would be too costly for her to quit her job and stay w/you all day. does your district offer flexible schedules? maybe you can take online course like college students do.   i think you should just go to school get a private tutor after school or on weekends so you dont fall behind. it might get worse if you hide in your house for a year and then you go back to school and will be attacked by a whole new slew of germs

  7. Didn't read your question details as I really need to get to bed. I just wanted to state that my imune system seemed like it was falling apart when I was in government school. After I started being home schooled though I hardly ever got sick, even though I still saw the same people all the time outside of school as well as other homeschoolers at sports, clubs, the park, the library, etc. I just wasn't exposed to as many sick kids whose parents sent them to school anyway all at once.

Only drawback was the two times I did get sick in the past three years hit me really hard. But it's better than being sick all the time... and worth it in exchange for a much higher quality education and much more freedom.
