How do i get my ny state driver's license?

I'm 20. I don't know how to drive. I want to get my license what should i do first? Get a permit right? but how do i go about this?

Hey I'm from NY. This is what you do.

Go to dmv and get the driving manual and after you read the book, go back to dmv and take the written test for the permit. You must bring with you your birth certificate, passport, social, and green card if you were not born in America. Upon passing the written test, you need to pay a fine of $60 to $79 depending on which DMV you go to. Once you have your permit, take driver's education. It's worth it and it gives you cheaper insurance. You take driver's ed lessons behind the wheel and the actual driver's ed course, and you can book your road test. Once you pass your road test, you're good to go with driving.

If you don't want to take driver's ed, you need to find a driving school that offers to give you the 5 hour movie, and you will get a movie certificate that let's you book your road test tat way.

Here are the basic steps.

(1) go to DMV and pick up driver manual

(2) study

(3) go back and take the written test - pass

(4) with the learner's permit practice driving

(5) you might have to take the 5 hour class

(6) take the road test - pass

(7) be happy.
