i have had my parakeets for about 2 years . i have one of my parakeets to come on or step up on to my finger and scratch him. i want to know how i can get him out of his cage. i have tried to take him out yesterday and it was going well he was starting to relax, until my other parakeet wanted to come out so i shut the cage door a little and he went nuts and started to fly around the room and under the bed. how can i get him to come out with him going crazy and hurting himself, and if there is a video to help me feel free to send it to me.

  1. First of all... you don't need to clip your bird's wings in order to train him. In fact, you will cause more issues in training if you do clip his wings because now you are completely associated with a negative experience.

    Birds go by a motto of "fight or flight" and if you take away their flight... then all they have left is fight and that is what you will get.

    Here are some videos you can watch on how to tame and train your bird to come out of his cage along with some other helpful websites with both video and pictures to help you along in the process;

  2. When it comes to training any pet bird you will need to have it's wings clipped and once you have that done you need to train it in a neutral room away from site of it's cage. And you have to work with the bird everyday

  3. its been 2 years and you just now lettin your parakeet fly???

    o my god none of my parakeets even have the cage. Longest they have ever been in he cage is 24 hours when i just first got them

  4. i also have a parakeet, so ya, well 1st you need to clip their wings or take them to a avian vet nearest to you if you have never done this before. When you go to get your bird out you need to make sure ALL the doors and windows are shut just for extra safety and make sure the fans and etc are all turned off. Then if i read it right if your bird gets on your finder already jst very slowly and carefully bring him out of the cage, meanwhile talking to him in a very soft voice once he is out then you can give him a piece of millet and let him eat it and then put him back in, just gradually keep repeating this but making each sessions a little longer than the previous and that should get more comfortable every time and he should want to come out the more and more you do this.  I hope this helps, i used hte very same method with my parakeet.
