How do i get my sat nav to back up again?

hi my problem is that my tomtom 520t wont back up, it says there was a problem reading the gnsdata file. i have connected the sat nav to the pc without tomtom home switched on ,and gone into the files on the tomtom. the pc says the gnsdata file is corrupted and unreadable. the file is only 17kb , should i delete the file and try to backup again ? or will this stop my tomtom functioning? i cant copy the file to flash stick either so i don't know what do do! help please!!!
