I think that the general opinion on cleaning wool carpets is that it's best to let the professionals do it, but if you do choose to do it yourself test the method on an inconspicuous area, and use as little cleaner or water as possible.  Also avoid too much rubbing - try to dab instead of rubbing, to avoid the stain spreading or becoming worse.
