i'm afraid to go back to work. i haven't been in the store i work in since the 17th. i was only there to get something and work on it at home. decided to take out the trash. and ended up having a bad experience from a guy who noticed the back door was open. and i was alone. i haven't been at work because i hurt my foot. now its getting better and i should be able to go back by the end of this week. i'm scared if i step into the store i will be constantly reminded of that day. how do i get over this? i want to work like i normally was. i'm 19 if that matters.

  1. Chelsea, I am so sorry about the frightening experience you've had. I hope you've talked to somebody about this. I mean really talked it all through. I would be frightened too. I would change a few things before going back. Hopefully you aren't working alone in the store. There should be two people there. If you take out the trash just before you close up the store, ask a male friend or relative to be there about 20 minutes before closing and to walk with you when you take out the trash. Whatever parts of your routine will cause you to feel fearful, make sure you and the store owner have implemented some safe strategies in advance. That should help alleviate some of your fears.

The rest will take time. Over time your fears will slowly lessen.

    Again, I'm sorry.
