  1. i suppose that the only way to get over your fear would be to face it. Just sit by a window and listen to the thunder or watch the lightning. You may want to sit with someone you trust to make you feel more comfortable. Also, do some research about weather. if you are informed about it, you may not be as afraid.              good luck!

  2. Step 1: Discover what caused your fear. Try to discover an event in your life that may have triggered these feelings. Discovering the cause may help you overcome the fear.

Step 2: Learn deep breathing techniques so that you can relax yourself when you feel anxious. You want to be in control of your feelings and responses. Learn anti-anxiety and calming methods as well. You can find deep breathing techniques on the Authentic Breathing website.

Step 3: Gather knowledge of thunderstorms. Knowledge is power. Understand the lights, the sounds and the real dangers. You might find that your fear stems from an unreal danger like the sound of thunder.

Step 4: Secure your home. Make sure your windows are shut properly. Have a safe place to go if there is a tornado warning. Be realistic, not paranoid.

Step 5: Watch the storm from a safe location. Keep inside or on a covered porch. Watch the amazing light show while safe. You may find your fear turns to fascination when you see the beauty of the storm.

Step 6: Try an anti-phobia technique. Get a self-suggestion tape. You listen to suggestions that calm you and help you overcome your fear. Try hypnosis in which someone suggests your fear away or try a virtual reality technique. With the help of a practitioner, you encounter your fear in a virtual thunderstorm.

Step 7: Take control of the situation. Recognize your fear. Calm yourself. Ask a friend to stay with you while you are trying to overcome your fear. You want to face your fear and defeat it, not let it send you into a panic.

Hope i helped :) good luck

  3. Being from Michigan,we do have a lot of terrible storms. Last week we had a tornado touch down just 4 miles from my house. That didnt bother me,..... thunder storms on the other hand terrify me. if I'm asleep and they happen I just cover up my head and stay still. Don't know what that does.

I'd say to try to be around others and you can comfort each other through it.

  4. You can try sleeping through thunderstorms that makes never afraid. Except for tornadoes you can stay by your mom or dads side and that'll make you feel safe.

  5. im with you...im terrified of lightning..and tornados except where i live in NY we dont have them..

anyway last year and the year before i would be sooo scared of lightning i would start to HYSTERICALLY cry whenever i would see it..EVEN IN FRONT OF BOYS. it was horrible..but now its slowley going away...i agree with what the first person said..once u start to experience them more and watch it u become a little less scared bc u realize that it cant really harm uu...i mean tornados can and its not good to just sit and watch one for obvious reasons but when it storms just sit by a window and watch it. my mom used to take me outside on our patio in florida and watch the storms and florida is lightning capital. good luck. its about to storm badly here and im home alone and freaking out =[
