  2. They have something that will kill mites that you can hang outside the cage.  I used cedar shavings in the bottom of the cage too.

  3. bath wont help. go to pet store and get a powder for mites. im warning you, it will be a large pain in the ***, becuase they have spread threw out your house by know so you might have to get something for your house.

  4. You should go to the vet and get him checked out.  But in the mean time go to your local pet center and buy special shampoo or spray for mites for your hamster.. But you should change the bedding and disinfect the cage, but make sure the chemicals wont be harmful to your hamster!!! Good luck!!

    Hope this helps!! :)

  5. Take her back to the pet store. They are responsible if the hamster has been itching ever since you bought her. A bath may help but unsure if hamsters will want a bath.

You may want to put a toothbrush in there in such a way that she can rub against it for relief until you can resolve this.

    Poor thing. Good luck!

  6. do  NOT do any further actions until you SEE A VET!!! vets are needed in situations like this. vets ASAP

EDIT* do NOT use cedar!!! cedar (and pine) will KILL small rodents, including hamsters!!

  7. Don't give her a water bath it is bad for hamsters and they will get cold and possibly die!

and with the dust bath just put it in a little pan that's wat i do for my chinchilla and it works fine if that doesn't help you really need to take her to the vet it shouldn't be too much since its for a hamster!

    hope i helped

wait im editing it dont give it a dust or sand bath its not healthy for hamsters just take it to the vet!

  8. Pet store hamsters are usually sold sick. He may have parasites but diabetes can cause itchiness too. A vet would tell you for sure.

If you make a big stink with the manager and corporate they pay to shut you up.

It is as serious as a broken rib. Your hamster is suffering.

  9. First of all, dust is not safe for hamsters.  Sand is, but the dust will get in their lungs and can hurt them.

You really need to see a vet.  I know that's never a popular answer, but to treat mites safely and properly, you need a vet to give you a medication that will kill them.

  10. Give it a bath, but be careful not to get the water too hot.  However, a bath will only be a temporary fix.  You might get some calamine lotion or aloe vera gel to rub on the affected area.  However, I don't know that this would be wise in case they could be toxic to the hamster in case she happened to l**k the areas.  Plus, having goopy medicine on her might make her too cold too.  The best thing to do is to call a vet and get advice or an appointment.

  11. give it a bath with baby shampoo and buy mite spray

  12. ask a vet to be safe

  13. here is something you can do to get rid of the mites:

THE HOMEMADE ANTI-MITE RECIPE FOR HAMSTERS!

Thanks to Hamsterite Ellischia for this one!

1 pint of room temperature water

    1 Tablespoon of Witchhazel

1 Tablespoon of Listerine (not flavored)

    TREATMENT PROCEDURE:

Apply the solution to the mite infected hamster externally with a washcloth or put the solution in a spray bottle and lightly spray the hamster while being careful to protect the eyes, nose and mouth. After you treat the hamster it is important to clean your hamster's cage and accessories thoroughly, change the bedding and spray the solution lightly in the cage and on the hamster's toys and accessories.

Witchhazel can often be found in grocery stores but is more commonly found at your local drug store.

Please note: This is not to be taken internally, it is a topical (on the skin) treatment.

    UPDATE:

According to Ken, the hamster guru, this recipe has been proven effective to treat mite infestations through a number of user testimonials. So rest easy young hamsterite, I think your hamster is gonna pull through!

    I hope this helps!
