Ok. I am a 14 year old boy, and i am about 5'10, and i weigh 155. The problem is that i have man b***s, and they are starting to p**s me off cause they are embarrassing. P.E starts for me in about 6 weeks and we don't go swimming until the 3rd week of P.E. so i have 9 weeks. I was wondering how i can get rid of my man b***s. I am a bit chubby, and i have fat on my hips, stomach, and of course, the moobs which i've had since i was 11,12. I started lifting weights, but they have been light ones, because i heard that they can speed up my metabolism. I do 2 sets of 100 curls with an 8lb weight, and a triceps work out. I also do 50 push ups everyday, and about 50 sits ups and crunches to get rid of my stomach. I was wondering if there was anything else i could do????????????

  1. Well, first of all, what is commonly known as "targeted weight loss" is a myth, that is, you can't just focus on a certain area of your body and expect to lose fat only there, so if you were to just focus on your moobs, you'd be most likely actually losing weight in different places as well.  This is because everyone's bodies distribute fat differently, but this distribution is independent of how much a certain muscle group is worked, it just depends on where you're genetically inclined to store the fat.  So, what you want to do is probably try for a total body workout if you want to lose some fat.

It's good that you've gotten into some weightlifting, as this can certainly raise your metabolism, since larger muscles require more fuel to be sustained, however, you should reduce the number of repetitions per set, and increase the weight.

The reason for this is that the muscles you want to work in weight lifting are your fast-twitch muscles, which are the ones that are more designed for strength, power, and speed, because they are the ones that will grow significantly larger (remember, larger = burns more calories) as you work them, as opposed to slow twitch muscles, which are designed more for endurance, and are less bulky.

So, what you want to do is give your muscles a challenge, and eventually they will improve to meet that challenge, that is, try weights that actually take a considerable amount of effort to lift (a good rule of thumb is that if you can lift the weight more than 12 times in a row, it's too light).  Try 4 or 5 sets of 8 curls with a minute or two rest in between, and before your pushups, get on the bench press with a similar amount of sets and reps.

As for working your abs, this is a great idea, as your abdominal muscles are a very large muscle group, so improving them will help a lot to raise that metabolism (that is, a small improvement in a large muscle group will usually raise your metabolism more overall than a large improvement in a small muscle group).  50 situps and 50 crunches is a great start.  Also, try holding a small weight behind your head as you do your situps, and try leg raises as well, as these will help challenge your muscles.

I would also recommend that you do some leg workouts, as the thigh muscles are the other large muscle group.  Try lunges while holding weights, maybe 2 or 3 sets of 10 lunges.

Now, on the other side, for your slow-twitch muscles, I recommend some more cardio-type stuff, such as using the treadmill/elliptical/stairstepper/rowing machines.  Doing these everyday will challenge your body to raise its everyday metabolism so that it has enough energy get this exercise done on a daily basis.

Ok, as far as diet, there are many things you can do.  The first and foremost is to drink lots of water.  If your p**s is yellow, you haven't had enough water.  Dehydrated bodies will go into "survival mode", which will lower the metabolism of the body and make it attempt to retain more fat.  If you stay well-hydrated, your body will be more inclined to raise its energy expenditure (metabolism), and improve itself.

Like I said, there are various other things as well:

-If you drink coffee/soda, quit it, as it is very high in worthless calories.

-Don't eat fast-food, such as french fries, non-lean burgers, etc, as these will only put back the fat you might have lost.  Instead, try salads, but be careful of salad dressings such as ranch, which is actually high in calories and stuff.  Dressings with olive-oil are good for you (such as many vinaigrettes), and will help to satisfy your hunger.

-Instead of putting butter on your bread, olive oil is a good substitute, or a fat-free alternative.

-Instead of three big meals each day, try to break that up into 5 small meals a day, as eating more constantly will raise your metabolism.

-If you eat white bread, try to switch to whole wheat, as you'll get more nutrients from it, and it will give you more energy.

-If you eat meat, try to keep it lean.  Fish is a perfect dish to eat for getting in shape, as it is really lean, and it's high in protein.  Chicken's alright too, if it's baked instead of fried, but don't eat the skin and fat if you're trying to lose weight.

-Eating grapefruit will actually help you lose weight too, as it's high in vitamin C and low in calories.  Many dieters swear by their grapefruit.

  2. It's a natural part of puberty and it can also be a natural part of you. With your exercise regime if you aren't lying you would be fine. Other than that just be active and eat healthy foods.

  3. Well, it sounds like you're doing great with the workout.  The problem with "man b***s" is that there are two components to them- a fatty component around the outside and a fibrous component in a sort of disk directly under the nipple.  The fat can be removed by a lot of exercise (that is a hard place to get rid of the fat in), but the fibrous tissue is not going to go away.  If this is a serious psychological concern to you, I would recommend seeing a doctor, because the only way that the fibrous tissue is going to go away is through surgery.  If it turns out that you do need surgery done, the surgeon will remove the fibrous tissue via two small incisions in the nipple and then can also liposuction the fat out.  It is not exactly cheap, but if it is weighing on your mind a lot, it is worth it.

Sorry I couldn't offer a more "miracle" solution, but that's the truth.  Talk to your parents about it because of your age, I know it's a little embarrassing, but they will be a lot more understanding than you may think

    Peace

  4. Your body has already adapted to the weight you have been using to lift and the amount of reps you have been doing for push-ups and sit-ups. You need to start increasing the weight and reps. It takes time to get rid of all the fat in your body, it doesn't happen over night. There's really nothing more you can do. You're doing the right thing, you just have to stay committed to it. Hope that helps!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Tennis helps. If you can't play, you can still get the same effect by using stretch bands and stretching diagonally across the chest.

  6. Exercise isn't really going to have much affect.

You need to change you diet and lose some weight. You can use exercise to keep the weight off once you get it off but you need to make a major change in your diet to initially lose it. When you do that, your b***s should be noticeably reduced or completely eliminated.

  7. We do this in track and it feels great, instead of the amount you are doing, do 200 full situps a day, 100 crunches (20 at a time, 10 second break inbetween), and then 50 pushups (in 2 minutes).

Do 200 jumping jacks a day, you can do them right before you go to sleep, it'll only take like, 2 minutes.

Jog and bike a lot. Try to job for 30 minutes 3 times a week if you can, or subsitute that for a half hour of biking.

You can hold planks, hold it for one minute. Relax for 2 mins, then hold another. Then switch when you are ready, hold the plank for 2 minutes and then a one minute break instead.

Just try not to eat junkie foods & make sure you drink a lot of water. I hope you feel better about your body soon!
