How do i get rid of rust on a metal cage...?

Question

i have this metal cage that has lots of rust and i want to get rid of it its kinda big..i want a home remedy not something i need to buy.

Northstar has it right, However, it also depends on what type of bird you want to put into the cage. Parrots and similar birds like to climb around on the bars and use their beaks like a third foot in order to climb and maneuver. This can mean that the paint may chip and the bird might ingest some of the paint and sealant. Other birds like canaries or finches should be fine since they prefer to perch on sticks and tend not to mouth the bar very often.

quickly sand off all the loose bits and spray paint it with exterior anti-rust enamel. When it dries, spray it with waterresistant urethane.
