  1. Don't squeeze it or pop it.  You have to be patient and careful when treating it.  A stye is actually caused by a bacteria, an infection, and you may need antibiotics to treat it, but sometimes it will go away on its own.  Soften the stye by applying a hot, moist compress several times a day for at lease 10 minutes at a time.

Whenever you are treating a stye, be very careful and resist the urge to pop or squeeze it! Do not rub your eyes because you can easily spread the infection to your other eye - that is unless you want a matching sett.  If your stye does not go away within a week see your doctor about getting antibiotics.

  2. First of all, DO NOT pop, squeeze, poke, or pick at the stye.  You want to apply a warm compress for about 5 minutes and do this 3 or 4 times a day. Even if it comes to a head, don't use a needle to pop it because you risk infection which will just take longer to heal. Here are some things you can do at home:

Put some fresh parsley in a bowl and add a cup of steaming hot water to it.  Let it steep for 10-15 minutes and soak a washcloth in it. Now apply this to your eye. Leave it on for about 15 minutes and do it twice a day.

You can also apply a regular teabag (not herbal) to your eye at bedtime.  Just moisten it and then bandage it to your eye so it doesn't move while you're sleeping.  Best to leave it overnight so it heals faster.

And last, this comes from my Grandmother who swore by it.  Rub the stye 3 times with a gold ring.  I guess any gold ring would work, she just always did it with her band.  LOL  But she passed it on to my Mom and she says it really does work.  Also witch hazel is good too. Apply it with a cotton ball.  Hope this helps. And remember never go to sleep with eye make-up on.
