What kind of ads? Download a popup blocker and antispyware program. Download yahoos toolbar that has both.

this will also eliminate popup ads

Click on your startbutton and click run

then type in services.msc

then in the list find Messenger

click it once then goto the top and click Action and select Properties

In Properties find Startup Type:

select Disable and click ok

restart your computer
