How do i get rust off an old sword?

we moved to mississippi not too long ago and we were cleaning up debri from katrina and found an old sword theres rust all over it and I'm not sure what we should use to get it off 10 points best answer thanks

  1. Rubbing the steel with a soft wire brush is useful.

    But pls remember improper cleaning is probably to destroy your valuable sword, the best way when rust happens is to see a polishing specialist .


  2. Go to the hardware store and ask for Naval Jelly. That'll do it. May take a few coats, but it reverses the oxidation.

  3. I heard that toothpaste works just fine.

  4. Since more than likely it is ruined anyway.....just use some CLR on it....then apply a thin coat of oil to keep it from rusting up again.

  5. I suppose "with the blood of your enemies" isn't a great answer?
